White Carrara marble on the exterior balconies of this apartment block in Spain were suffering from 2 related problems:
1) Rain was entering the unsealed marble and causing microscopic metal deposits insied the material to rust and stain the pure white marble.
2) The water was moving through the marble and into the brick, concrete and mortar structure of the building, causing a buildup of damp and humidity inside the apartments.
